Whatever type of car, size of car, or length of rental contract you prefer, chances are you will have no trouble at all finding and reserving the best car for your preferences and needs. Remember, though, that Ireland is home to some really rugged terrain so if you plan to explore these kinds of areas be sure your hired car is appropriate for this kind of driving.
In most cases, the items you need to hire a car for your Irish vacation are proof of current insurance and a valid national driver's license. Once you are ready to start driving keep in mind the following:

- Many roads are narrow and/or steep so drive with caution
- Watch for speed limits and road signs that may vary from location to location
